वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा जो बड़ी मासूमियत से भरा था लब्बों पे था उसके तबस्सुम का जलवा मगर शख़्सियत में तकल्लुफ़ का पहरा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light, It was overflowing with pure innocence. A radiant smile graced her lips, Yet her persona was guarded by formality. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

वह बेहतर सलीके की तरबीयत सी और तबीयत में उसके बहुत सादगी थी बड़ी सनसनी उसके गुफ़्तार में थी जैसे छुपा के रखा था राज़ गहरा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

She embodied refined manners and cultured upbringing, And her nature possessed profound simplicity. There was a quiet thrill in her speech, As if she held a deep secret hidden away. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

दिल से उसके छलकती थी शफ़क़त रुख़्सार ऐसे कि हो मय के पियाले दांतों के बदले मोती जड़े थे आंखें थीं ऐसी कि हो झील ठहरा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

Compassion flowed gently from her heart, Her cheeks resembled cups of fine wine. In place of teeth, pearls seemed to be set, Her eyes were calm, like a still lake. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

हैसियत थी उसकी मोहब्बत से लबरेज़ होंठों से फूटता था तरन्नुम एहसास में था बहुत ही तवाज़ुन गेसुओं का रंग भी था सुनहरा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

Her entire being was brimming with love, Melody burst forth naturally from her lips. There was a beautiful balance in her emotions, Even the colour  of her tresses was golden . That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

वह पेड़ से लिपटी हुई नाज़ुक सी डाली मगर खुद से उठने की ताक़त नहीं थी दिल में थे उसके हज़ारों ही नग़्मे मगर गुनगुनाने की हिम्मत पे पर्दा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

She was like a delicate branch clinging to a tree, Lacking the strength to rise on her own. A thousand melodies echoed in her heart, Yet a veil hindered her courage to hum them aloud. That face was deeply impactful and luminous light.

बहुत उसमें नफ़ासत की तालीम भी थी वह बनना बिगड़ना और फिर सँवरना बहुत उस पे नक़्क़ादों की भी नज़र थी मगर मैंने उसको हर नज़र से उबारा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

She possessed the fine art of elegance and grace, The cycle of taking shape, dissolving, and refining once more. The critical eyes of many reviewers were upon her, Yet I shielded and elevated her above every glance. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

वह बेसाख़्ता और बेबाक नज़रें दिलों में चलाती थीं जैसे वह नश्तर मुझे भी बहुत दिलबरी उस से हुई थी मगर हद से निकलने की जुर्रत से हारा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

Those spontaneous and bold glances, Pierced through hearts like a surgeon's blade. I too felt a deep affection and charm for her, Yet I lost to the fear of crossing boundaries. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

बड़ी हसरतों से मैंने उसको सँवारा और मुश्किलों से ज़हन से उतारा वह कोई नहीं मेरी पहली ग़ज़ल थी मेरी तख़लीक़ का था वही एक देहरा वह बहुत पुर-असर और पुर-नूर चेहरा

With immense longing, I nurtured and refined her, And with great effort, I finally transcribed her from my mind. She was no person, but my very first ghazal— The singular sanctuary of my creative creation. That face was deeply impactful and filled with luminous light.

वह कैसा वक़्त और कैसी घड़ी थी ग़ज़ल धूल पर ऐसे गिरी थी, जैसे कोई फूल हो शाख़ से रमेश, कहीं यह शेल/शेख़ का ही करम तो नहीं था जिसने बेतहाशा उसको कहा था कि पर्दा करो

What a tragic moment, what an unfortunate time it was, When the ghazal fell to the dust, like a blossom detached from its branch. Ramesh, could this perhaps be the doing of the Sheikh/critic, Who relentlessly insisted that she remain veiled and hidden?

Dosti aur Dushmani

दोस्ती और दुश्मनी

अपनी सीरत में इतना तवाज़ुन तो पैदा कीजिए, दुश्मन को भी गले लगाने से परहेज़ न कीजिए। Develop such balance in your character, that you do not hesitate even to embrace your enemy.

दुश्मनों को आदतन हमेशा माफ़ करते रहिए, उन्हें परेशान करने का इस से बेहतर रास्ता न चुनिए। Make it a habit to always forgive your enemies; choose no better way to trouble them than this.

दुश्मनों को नफ़रत का मौक़ा थोड़ा ज़रूर दीजिए, इसी बहाने उनकी सारी नफ़रतों को मिटा दीजिए। Give your enemies a slight opportunity to hate, and use that very pretext to erase all their hatred.

आख़िर में तो बस दोस्तों की आवाज़ ही याद आएगी, दुश्मनों की तो सिर्फ़ ख़ामोशी ही बाक़ी रह जाएगी। In the end, only the voices of friends will be remembered; only the silence of enemies will remain.

हर मुश्किल हाल में दोस्ती का फ़र्ज़ निभाते चलिए, दुश्मनी निभाने की ज़हमत कभी न उठाइए। Fulfill the duty of friendship in every difficult situation; never take the trouble to harbor enmity.

दुश्मनों को दोस्त बनाना आज ही से शुरू कीजिए, इसी तरकीब से उनकी दुश्मनी फ़ना कर दीजिए। Start turning your enemies into friends today; destroy their enmity using this very strategy.

ज़िंदगी की कश्मकश के आख़िरी पड़ाव पर ठहरना चाहिए, उम्र भर के दुश्मनों को भी दोस्ती से सैराब करना चाहिए। One should pause at the final stage of life's struggles and quench even lifelong enemies with friendship.

जब आख़िरी वक़्त में साथ कुछ ले जा नहीं सकते, तो दुश्मनी ही साथ ले जा कर तुम क्या हासिल कर लोगे? When you cannot take anything with you at the final moment, what will you gain by carrying enmity along?

Raze Taskeen

राज-ए-तस्कीं

एहसान मानता हूँ तेरा मैं, तूने दिया बहुत कुछ, शुक्रिया बहुत तुम्हारा, बिन माँगे ही मिल गया सब कुछ।

I am deeply grateful to You, for You have given me so much, My heartfelt thanks to You, for I received everything without even asking.

तस्कीं से लबरेज़ है दिल मेरा, सुकून मुझपर है तारी, सब कुछ मिला है मुझको, अब गिला करने की नहीं है बारी।

My heart is brimful of contentment, and a deep peace overwhelms me, I have received everything, and now there is no room left for complaint.

गिला करोगे उससे तुम, तो कुछ भी न होगा हासिल, जो कुछ दिया है उसने, उससे भी रहोगे गाफ़िल।

If you complain to Him, you will gain nothing at all, And you will remain oblivious even to the blessings He has already bestowed.

ख़ुश रहना है दुनिया में, तो क़ाबू कर लो ख़्वाहिशों को, सुकून होगा तुमको हासिल, ज़ाब्ते में रखो इन हसरतों को।

If you wish to live happily in this world, master your desires, You will attain true peace if you keep these longings within bounds.

थोड़े में ही ख़ुश रहने की, अपने अंदर आदत डालो, ख़्वाहिशें बेइंतहा होती हैं, इन्हें हद में ही पालो।

Cultivate the habit within yourself to be content with a little, Desires are endless; keep them nurtured strictly within limits.

जितना भी दिल से एहसान मानोगे उसकी शफ़क़त का, उतना ही घर भर देगा वह, तुम्हारा बड़ी बरकत से।

The more sincerely you cherish the debt of His boundless affection, The more richly He will shower blessings to fill your home.

खाना दस्तरख़्वान पर सजा हो, और एक छत हो सर ढकने के लिए, इससे ज़्यादा आदमी को दरकार है क्या, ज़िंदगी बसर करने के लिए?

Food adorned upon the table, and a roof above to cover one's head— What more does a person truly require to pass through this life?

जब फ़रमान आएगा उसका, एक पल की मोहलत वह न देगा, साथ अपने कुछ भी न ले सकोगे, सब कुछ यहीं धरा रहेगा।

When His final decree arrives, He will not grant a single moment’s reprieve, You will carry nothing with you; everything will remain left behind here.

एहसानमंदी का अपने अंदर, ऐसा शऊर पैदा कर लो, जो कुछ भी दिया उसने, क़बूल करके उसका शुक्रिया अदा कर लो।

Awaken such a deep consciousness of gratitude within yourself, That whatever He has granted, you accept with grace and render your thanks.

chupta nahi dil ka haal

छुपता  नहीं दिल का हाल (Chupta Nahi Dil Ka Haal)

Matla (Opening Refrain)

Hindi: छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं। अपने दिल का सब हाल अपने ही आमाल बताते हैं।

English: The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it. All the secrets of our heart are revealed by our own actions.

Stanza 1

Hindi: जैसे हमारी सोच वैसे ही काम हम करते हैं। देखने वाले हमारी कार-कर्दगी पे नज़र रखते हैं। अपने दिल का सब हाल अपने ही आमाल बताते हैं। छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं।

English: We act in accordance with how we think. Those who observe keep an eye on our performance and deeds. All the secrets of our heart are revealed by our own actions. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it.

Stanza 2

Hindi: अपने आमाल ही हमको खुशहाल या पामाल बनाते हैं। फिर भी सब से हम अपने अहवाल छुपाते हैं। आखिर अपने ही हालात सब को अपने आमाल सुनाते हैं। छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं।

English: Our own deeds make us prosperous or ruined. Yet, we keep hiding our true state from everyone. In the end, our circumstances narrate the story of our deeds to all. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it.

Stanza 3

Hindi: हम गलतफहमी में होते हैं कि हम औरों से छुपाते हैं। हम अपने दिल का राज़ किसी और को नहीं सुनाते हैं। अपने ही इख्लाक़ से हम अपना सारा हाल सबको दिखाते हैं। छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं।

English: We live in the misconception that we are hiding it from others. We think we aren't sharing the secrets of our heart with anyone. Yet through our character and manners, we display our entire state to everyone. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it.

Stanza 4

Hindi: अपनी सोच और आमाल के इल्ज़ाम हम अपनी किस्मत पे लगाते हैं। मस्बत आमाल से ही किस्मत वाले भी अपने हालात बनाते हैं। अपने किरदार से ही हम सबको अपने आमाल सुनाते हैं। छुपता  नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं।

English: We blame our fate for the outcomes of our thoughts and actions. Even the fortunate ones shape their circumstances through positive deeds. It is through our character that we announce our actions to everyone. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it.

Stanza 5

Hindi: हमारी सोच का हमारे आमाल पर बहुत असर होता है। और हमारे हालात हमारे आमाल पर मुनहसिर होते हैं। देखने वाले भी कई मुस्तैद नज़र रखते हैं। छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं। अपने दिल का सब हाल अपने ही आमाल बताते हैं।

English: Our thoughts heavily influence our actions. And our life circumstances depend directly on those actions. The observers around us keep a sharp and vigilant watch. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it. All the secrets of our heart are revealed by our own actions.

Stanza 6 (Maqta / Concluding Stanza)

Hindi: गर हमें अपने हालात बदलने होंगे, सबसे पहले अपनी सोच बदलनी होगी। सोच बदलने से आमाल सुधर जायेंगे, आमाल बदलने से हालात सुधर जायेंगे। अपने दिल का सब हाल अपने ही जज़्बात सुनाते हैं। अपने दिल का सब हाल अपने ही आमाल बताते हैं। छुपता नहीं दिल का हाल चाहे हम लाख छुपाते हैं।

English: If we wish to change our circumstances, We must first change our way of thinking. Changing our thoughts will reform our actions; changing our actions will mend our circumstances. All the secrets of our heart are echoed by our own emotions. All the secrets of our heart are revealed by our own actions. The condition of the heart isn't hidden, no matter how much we try to conceal it.

Daulat aur Amiri

दौलत और अमीरी (Daulat aur Amiri)

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में, ख़ुश रहता है बशर सुकून से फ़क़ीरी में।

English: There is a vast difference between wealth and true richness, A human finds serene happiness even in simple contentment (fakiri).

मिलती है हमें दौलत सारी, ज़मीनों की वजह से, मेहनत करता है कोई अपने ख़ून-पसीने से। और मिलती है किसी को दौलत जद्दी-विरासत से, इंसान ज़मीन से लेता बहुत, वापस कुछ नहीं देता है, पेड़ और जानवर ज़मीन को लौटाते हैं भरपूरी में।

English: We gain all our riches from the earth's bounty, Some toil hard with their sweat and blood. Others inherit fortune through ancestral lineage. Humans take immensely from the earth, giving nothing back, While trees and animals restore nature in full abundance.

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में...

जो कम दौलत में गुज़ारा करे, लालच न करे, वो अमीर होता है, जिसके पास दौलत बहुत, पर पाने की हवस हो, वो ग़रीब होता है। इख़्तिलाफ़ रहता है यक़ीनन लालच और सबूरी में।

English: One who lives on little without greed is the truly rich one, While one with endless wealth who craves for more remains poor. There lies an undeniable conflict between greed and patience (saboori).

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में...

अमीरी या ग़रीबी में दौलत का बहुत कम असर होता है, जिसके पास खाने-पहनाने के अलावा छत भी सर पर होता है, वो मेरी नज़र में दुनिया में बहुत अमीर होता है। इतनी दौलत जमा करना किसलिए फिर ज़रूरी है?

English: Wealth plays a very minor role in being rich or poor, Whoever has food, clothes, and a shelter over their head, Is, in my view, immensely wealthy in this world. Why then is it necessary to hoard so much wealth?

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में...

इंसान की अमीरी का पता जायदाद से नहीं, किरदार से लगता है, कोई गुर्बत में भी औरों की मदद करने में यक़ीन रखता है, और कोई अमीर होने के बावजूद किसी की मदद नहीं करता है। कोई जीता है इस दुनिया में सुकून से, और कोई जीता है मजबूरी में।

English: A person's true wealth is judged by character, not by property, Some believe in helping others even through their poverty, While others, despite being rich, offer no helping hand. Some live peacefully in this world, while others live bound by compulsion.

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में...

ज़्यादा दौलत होने में ही खोने का डर सताता रहता है, जिसके पास उतना ही है जितना दरकार है, वो सुकून से जीता है। कोई ख़ुशहाली में जीता है, तो कोई बदहाली में मरता है, साथ चलते हैं इंसान के नेक आमाल, यहीं रह जाती दौलत सारी है।

English: Having excessive wealth brings the constant fear of losing it, But he who has just as much as needed lives in peace. Some live in prosperity, while others suffer in plight, Yet only good deeds accompany a human—all wealth remains left behind.

फ़र्क़ होता है बहुत दौलत में और अमीरी में, ख़ुश रहता है बशर सुकून से फ़क़ीरी में।

Roshni

Urdu Nazm 30: रोशनी (Light)

Stanza 1

Hindi Script: अंधेरा छटेगा जब सूरज की रोशनी से तो दुनिया की हर सिमत होगी उजागर। कोई शय न छुप सकेगी और कोई बशर न रह सकेगा अपने आप को छुपाकर।

English Translation: When the darkness vanishes before the light of the sun, every direction of the world will be illuminated. No object will remain hidden, and no human will be able to keep themselves concealed.

Stanza 2

Hindi Script: उम्मीद की किरण जागेगी हर आसमान और ज़मीन के अंदर। हर गोशा-ए-गुलज़ार में, हर चमन और गुलशन के अंदर।

English Translation: A ray of hope will awaken within every sky and earth, In every corner of the flower garden, within every meadow and orchard.

Stanza 3

Hindi Script: कोई परवाना जल सकेगा न फिर शमा की तेज़ लौ से इस कदर। और कोई जुगनू दिख सकेगा न उड़ते हुए आसमान में इधर-उधर।

English Translation: No moth will burn like that in the fierce flame of the candle anymore, And no firefly will be visible flying here and there in the night sky.

Stanza 4

Hindi Script: थोड़ी सी रोशनी भी बहुत सारा अंधेरा मिटाती है। और रोशनी हमेशा अंधेरे के बीच में ठहरती है।

English Translation: Even a little light dispels a vast amount of darkness, And light always finds its place right in the midst of darkness.

Stanza 5

Hindi Script: जो तुमको दूसरों को रोशनी देनी होगी, तो तुम्हें पहले खुद चमकना होगा। तुम्हारे अंदर जो रोशनी है वह, बढ़ाकर तुम्हें और दमकना होगा।

English Translation: If you wish to give light to others, You must first shine yourself. The light that resides within you, You must amplify it and glow even brighter.

Stanza 6

Hindi Script: आदमी की यही ख्वाहिश होती है अंधेरा छोड़के रोशनी की तरफ जाए। अंधेरा होने की वजह से ही ख्याल आता है कि रोशनी को कैसे पाए।

English Translation: It is a human's deepest desire to leave the darkness behind and move toward the light. It is the very presence of darkness that sparks the thought of how to attain light.

Stanza 7

Hindi Script: हर माँ-बाप यह दुआ देता है अपने बच्चे को कि उसका मुस्तक़बिल रोशन रहे। कुदरत उसे नवाज़े अदब और रोशन-ख्याली से और वह रोशनी फैलाता रहे।

English Translation: Every parent prays for their child that their future remains bright. May Nature bless them with good manners and enlightened thinking, and may they continue to spread light.

रोशनी (Light)

 अंधेरा छटेगा जब सूरज की रोशनी से तो दुनिया की हर सिमत होगी उजागर। कोई शय न छुप सकेगी और कोई बशर न रह सकेगा अपने आप को छुपाकर।

secret of argumentation

राज़-ए-तकरार (The Secret of Argumentation)

1.

Devanagari: कुछ मुद्दाौ पर हम भी अपना मौक़िफ़ तहरीर में बयान करते हैं। पर हर एक बात पे लोगों से दलीलों पे तकरार नहीं करते हैं।

English: On some issues, I too express my stance through writing. But I do not engage in heated arguments or debate with people over every single point.

2.

Devanagari: कुछ लोग तो इतने माहिर-ए-बहस होते हैं कि हर बात पे करते हैं तकरार। यक़ीनन जीत जाते हैं वो तकरार पर खो देते हैं अपने क़रीबी यार।

English: Some people are such experts at arguing that they debate over everything. Surely they win the argument, but in the process, they lose their close friends.

3.

Devanagari: उनके लिए बहस जीतना एक ग़ुरूर का सबब बन जाता है अक्सर। अपनी ग़लती जान कर भी वो तकरार करने में रखते नहीं हैं कोई कसर।

English: Winning an argument often becomes a source of pride for them. Even after realizing their mistake, they leave no stone unturned to keep arguing.

4.

Devanagari: कई बार उनका रक़ीब अपने दिल में उन्हें समझने लगता है जाहिल। पर उनका ग़ुरूर अपनी ग़लती क़बूलने को उनको नहीं करता है माइल।

English: Many times, their opponent starts viewing them as ignorant in their heart. Yet, their pride never allows or inclines them to admit their mistake.

5.

Devanagari: अपनी ग़लती लगे तो क़बूल कर लो और कोशिश करो करने की उसको सही। साबित हुए तुम दुरुस्त तो यह नहीं कहना कि पहले से ही हम कहते थे यही।

English: If you feel you are wrong, accept it and try to make it right. And if you are proven correct, avoid boasting, "I was telling you this all along!"

6.

Devanagari: तकरार की ज़रूरत होती है जब किसी के साथ होता नहीं है इंसाफ़। या हुकूमत कोई ऐसा चलाए जिसके नेक नहीं होते हैं औसाफ़।

English: Confrontation is necessary when an injustice is committed against someone, Or when someone governs with intentions that are far from virtuous.

7.

Devanagari: ख़ामख़ाह हर बात पे तकरार करने की कोई ज़रूरत तो नहीं है हमको। नेक रखो अपने आमाल किसी से उलझने की ज़रूरत तो नहीं है तुमको।

English: There is no need for us to argue pointlessly over every small matter. Keep your actions noble; you don't need to get into conflicts with anyone.

8.

Devanagari: अहले-नाव की नयी फ़सलों से यह गुज़ारिश करते हैं हम अक्सर। बहस में पड़ने के बदले कुछ कर के गुज़र जाना है बेहतर।

English: I often request this of the new generation (the rising crop of youth): Instead of falling into endless debates, it is far better to achieve something meaningful through your actions.

Hamse jaya na Gaya

Stanza 1

Hindi Script: हमसे जाया न गया हमको बुलाया न गया। बेरुख़ी इतनी बढ़ी हमको भुलाया ही गया।

English Translation:

I could not go, nor was I invited. Indifference grew so much that I was completely ignored/brushed aside.

Stanza 2

Hindi Script: हम तो मुंतज़िर रहे अक्सर उनके बुलावे के लिए वो बुलाते हमको सिर्फ़ एक बार दिखावे के लिए। क्या करें हमको ख़ुद से फिर आया न गया। हमसे जाया न गया हमको बुलाया न गया।

English Translation:

I often remained waiting for their invitation, Even if they had called me just once, merely for show. What could I do, I couldn't bring myself to go uninvited. I could not go, nor was I invited.

Stanza 3

English Translation:

I didn't know how these misunderstandings/grievances grew, But that moment was not suitable for investigation. After that, another chance never came into my hands. I could not go, nor was I invited.

Stanza 4

Hindi Script: वो पेश आते रहे हम से बड़ी ख़ुश-अस्लूबी से। क्या पता था खो देंगे हम जो मिला था ख़ुश-नसीबी से। हमसे उल्फ़त का गीत फिर से गाया न गया। हमसे जाया न गया हमको बुलाया न गया।

English Translation:

They kept treating me with great elegance and courtesy. Who knew I would lose what I had gained through good fortune? I could never sing the song of love ever again. I could not go, nor was I invited.

Stanza 5

Hindi Script: हमारी उलझन थी वो बुलाते, उन्हें गुमान था हम ख़ुद ही आते। इसी अना की वजह से हमने गुज़ारी तन्हाई में ही तमाम रातें। उनसे भी सोज़-ए-दिल फिर से सुनाया न गया। हमसे जाया न गया हमको बुलाया न गया। बेरुख़ी इतनी बढ़ी हमको बुलाया ही गया।

English Translation:

My dilemma was that they should invite me, while they presumed I would come on my own. Because of this pride/ego, I spent all my nights in loneliness. They, too, could not express the anguish of their heart again. I could not go, nor was I invited. Indifference grew so much that I was completely ignored.

एक फूल की फ़ितरत (Ek Phool ki Fitrat)

stanza 1 चमन ने फूल से कहा एक दिन, संभाल के रहना बिखर न जाना हवा के झोंकों से। फूल ने वापस कहा उसी दम, बिखरना मेरी फ़ितरत है और कैसे हवा को रोकूं मैं।

English Translation: The garden said to the flower one day, "Be careful, do not get scattered by the gusts of wind." The flower replied at that very instant, "Scattering is my nature, and how can I stop the wind?"

stanza 2 कभी बिखरता हूँ मैं  खुशबू बनकर, हवा के झोंकों को अपने साथ लेकर। कभी मुरझा के गिर जाता हूँ, हवा के झोंकों से तेरी मिट्टी के ही अंदर।

English Translation: Sometimes I scatter as fragrance, taking the gusts of wind along with me. Sometimes I wither and fall from the breeze, sinking into your very soil.

stanza 3 नव बहार में उभर के आता हूँ मैं, एक नये फूल की डाली बनकर। फिर हवा के झोंके झूमते हुए आते हैं और लहराते हैं मुझे अक्सर।

English Translation: In the new spring, I emerge anew as a branch of a fresh flower. Then the breezes come dancing by, making me sway time and again.

stanza 4 कभी झूलते हैं मुझे हवा के झोंके, अपनी बांहों में लेकर। कभी चूमती है मेरे होंठ, ठंडी हवा हल्की सी फुहार बनकर।

English Translation: Sometimes the gusts of wind swing me, holding me in their arms. Sometimes the cool breeze kisses my lips, turning into a gentle drizzle.

stanza 5 कभी कोई दिलजला आशिक़ तोड़ कर मुझे ले जाता है, अपनी महबूब को रिझाने के लिए। कभी कोई दिलशिकस्ता मेरा गुलदस्ता बनाकर ले जाता है, अपना रसूख़ बढ़ाने के लिए।

English Translation: Sometimes a heartbroken lover plucks me to woo his beloved. Sometimes someone disappointed makes a bouquet out of me to boost their status.

stanza 6 कभी कोई भक्त ले जाता है मुझको, मंदिरों में देवों पे चढ़ाने के लिए। और कभी कोई मुल्ला काटकर मुझको ले जाता है, मक़बरों पे सजाने के लिए।

English Translation: Sometimes a devotee takes me away to offer to the deities in temples. And sometimes a cleric cuts me away to decorate shrines and tombs.

stanza 7 जब ज़िंदा होता हूँ तो बाद-ए-सबा महकती है, मेरी ख़ खुशबू के ही दम पर। और जब कट जाता हूँ किसी टहनी से, तो इंसान के ही काम आता हूँ मैं अक्सर।

English Translation: When I am alive, the morning breeze blooms fragrant purely on the strength of my perfume. And when I am cut from a branch, I still end up serving humanity.

I have suffered immense loss because of my love for you. Yet, the madness of my passion has enhanced and adorned your beauty greatly.

Hindi Script: शायद इस बात पे तुम कुछ हैरान हो जाओगे। जितना खैरात करोगे, उस से ज़्यादा ही वापस पाओगे।

English Translation: Perhaps you will be a bit surprised by this truth: The more you give in charity, the more you shall receive in return.

Stanza 2

Hindi Script: अच्छे लोग इस दुनिया में रहकर बहुत कमाते हैं। और देने वाले शायद कुछ बढ़कर ही वापस पाते हैं।

English Translation: Good people earn a great deal during their time in this world, And those who give always seem to get back even more than they gave.

Stanza 3

Hindi Script: यह अहम नहीं सिर्फ माल-ओ-ज़र ही वापस मिल जाएगा। देने से ज़िंदगी में खुशियाँ और सुकून भी आ जाएगा।

English Translation: It isn't just about getting wealth and money back in return; Giving also fills your life with happiness and deep peace of mind.

English Translation: The giver often advances furthest on the spiritual path, For in giving, they learn to discipline and control their own desires.

Hindi Script: जब भी तुम खुद कुछ देने का फैसला दिल में करते हो। अपनी खुशियों और दौलत के सरमाये का इज़ाफा भी करते हो।

English Translation: Whenever you sincerely decide in your heart to give, You actively multiply the treasures of your own joy and wealth.

Hindi Script: यह बेमोल हवा, सूरज की रोशनी और कुदरती वसायिल जिनका कोई भी नहीं तकाज़ा। हम भूल जाते हैं अक्सर कि कुदरत ने हमें कितनी नेमतों से है नवाज़ा।

English Translation: This priceless air, the sunlight, and nature's gifts demand nothing in return. Yet we so often forget how abundantly Nature has blessed us with its bounties.

Original: खून के आन्सू पीकर भी जख्मे जिगर छुपाना मजबूरी है । किसी भी हालात मे ईन्सान को तवाजुन बनाकर रखना जरुरी है ।।

Translation: Even after drinking tears of blood, hiding the wounds of the heart is a compulsion. No matter the circumstances, a person must maintain their balance.

Stanza 2

Original: बारहा चोट खाये है मेरे दिल ने कि दिल बन गया है अब पत्थर । मे इसको चोट देता हू ये वापस मुझपर चोट करता है अक्सर ।।

Translation: My heart has been wounded so repeatedly that it has turned into stone. I strike it, and often it strikes right back at me.

Stanza 3

Original: मुझे पसन्द आते है वोह लोग जिनका दिल दिमाग से होता है बेहतर। जो सामने से ही वार करते हो और पीछे से न चलाते हो नश्तर। ।

Translation: I prefer people whose hearts are better than their minds— Those who strike directly from the front and do not wield a dagger behind one's back.

कभी कभी दिल टूटना भी ज़रूरी है आदमी की बन्दगी के लिए। बहुत लाज़मी है यह बेहतर बनाने को अपनी ज़िन्दगी के लिए।।

Sometimes, it is necessary for the heart to break for a person’s humility and devotion. It is essential in order to make one's life better.

मुसलसल कामयाबी से इंसान मे कभी गरूर आता है। नाकामयाबी के थोडे से मुरकब से फितरत मे शवूर आता है।।

जुदाई भी जरूरी होती है मोहब्बत को परवान चडाने के लिए। हर बुराई से बचाने के लिए और हर अच्छाई को आपस मे जुडाने के लिए।।

Separation too is necessary for love to flourish and reach its height— To protect it from every evil and to bind all goodness together.

जुदाई उनके लिए मुशकिल होती है जो नज़र से मोहब्बत करता है। जो दिल और रूह से मोहब्बत करता है वह जुदाई से नही डरता है।।

Separation is difficult for those who love with their eyes. Those who love with their heart and soul do not fear separation.

कुछ जनूनी आशको की मोहब्बत मे अजीब सी शिदत्त होती है। अपने महबूब के आस पास गुजरने वाली हवा से भी उन्हे दिक्कत होती है।।

The love of some passionate lovers carries a strange intensity. They even have a problem with the breeze passing near their beloved.

और ऐक मोक्का नाकामियाब आशको को जरूर देना चाहिए। पर इस बार यकीनन महबूब कोई और होना चाहिए।।

> Some traveler finds everything they sought; another finds a home in the middle of a desert.

> Somewhere every moment brings restlessness; elsewhere the heart finally finds peace.

Woh Raakh muje Lota do (Return that ash to me)

Stanza 1: Woh mere purkhoo ki jageer, woh Mera poora Kashmir, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the estate/legacy of my ancestors, return to me my complete Kashmir.

Stanza 2: Woh meree virasat Mera khwab, woh Mera chodvi ka mehtaab, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my heritage, my dream, and my full moon (light).

Stanza 3: Woh meree zameen woh meri jaan, jise kahte the Sharda Dhaam, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my land, my life/soul, which was called Sharda Dhaam.

Stanza 4: Woh meri virasat Meree taqdeer jisme rahte the sant faqeer, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my heritage, my destiny, where saints and ascetics once resided.

Stanza 5: Woh Kashyap Rishi ka basaya Shahar, Jo kahlata tha kashyapmar, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the city settled by Rishi Kashyap, which was known as Kashyapmar.

Stanza 6: Jahan Abinavgupt ne diya Shiv ka gyan, jisko mana poora Hindustan, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the place where Abhinavagupta imparted the knowledge of Shiva, revered by all of India.

Stanza 7: Jahan Adishankar ko mila tha Shakti ka poora gyan, woh Kashmir muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me that Kashmir where Adi Shankara attained the complete knowledge of Shakti.

Stanza 8: Jehan rehta tha Pandit Rishipeer, jisne Aurangzeb ko di thi maat, mujo lota do.

Translation: Return to me the place where Pandit Rishi Peer lived, who outwitted/defeated Aurangzeb.

Stanza 9: Woh mere khet mere khalyan, woh seboo aur akhrotoo ke bagaan, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my fields, my threshing yards, and those orchards of apples and walnuts.

Stanza 10: Woh mera khir bhawani ka asthaan Jo tha Mera dil aur jaan, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my sacred abode of Kheer Bhawani, which was my heart and soul.

Stanza 11: Woh shankaracharya ka Mandir aur woh Hari Parbhat ka asthan, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the Shankaracharya Temple and the sacred site of Hari Parbat.

Stanza 12: Woh mere barfani Baba jisse kehte hai Amarnath, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my Snow-Clad Lord (Barfani Baba), known as Amarnath.

Stanza 13: Woh mere vitasta ke sundar ghat, jehaan par the mere Mandir aur Makan, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the beautiful banks of the Vitasta (Jhelum) river, where my temples and home used to stand.

Stanza 14: Meri khoyee huyee woh saakh, mere abao ajidad ki raakh, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me my lost dignity/reputation, and the ashes of my ancestors.

Stanza 15: Woh mere khwaboo ki tabeer, jise kahte hai Kashmir, muje lota do.

Translation: Return to me the realization of my dreams, which is called Kashmir.

Life's Stages (Zindagi ke Marhale)

Stanza 1

गुजर रही है यह ज़िन्दगी मेरी सिर्फ हर्रीफू मै। कोई बन्दा नजर नही आता है अब शरीफू मै।।

Translation: My life is passing by amidst nothing but adversaries, I can no longer spot a single noble or decent soul among them.

Stanza 2

सच कहने पर चडाया है अदीबौ को सलीबौ पे। जिन्दा दफनाया गया है रफीकौ को रकीबौ ने ।।

Translation: Writers and intellectuals were put on the cross simply for speaking the truth, And true friends were buried alive by jealous rivals.

Stanza 3

बारहा जुल्म किया है अमीरौ ने गरीबौ पे । इल्जाम हर दम लगाया है गरीबौ ने नसीबौ पे।।

Translation: Time and again, the wealthy have inflicted cruelty upon the poor, While the poor continuously placed the blame on their own fate.

Stanza 4

जेब देता नही है मुरीदौ को सिखाना मुरशदौ को। एब आता नही है नजर कितना भी निकाले अरशदौ को।।

Translation: It does not suit the disciples to lecture their spiritual guides, Yet no fault ever seems visible to the most righteous guide, no matter how many flaws are pointed out.

Stanza 5

जिसको एक सदी मै बेकली कहते है दूसरी सदी की वह अक्ल होती है। जो पहले करता है वह अदा होती है और दूसरा करे कोई वह नकल होती है।।

Translation: What is deemed madness or restlessness in one century becomes the wisdom of the next; The one who acts first creates a unique style, while anyone who follows merely copies it.

Stanza 6

मुझे प्याला देने से पहले बहुत देर तक सोन्चता रहा साकी। शायद वह सोन्च रहा था मेरा कोई हिसाब तो नही है बाकी

Translation: The cupbearer hesitated and pondered for a long time before handing me the cup, Perhaps he was wondering if I still had an unsettled debt to clear.

Stanza 7

बहुत कुछ सीखने के बाद अपने रफीकौ ओर शफीकौ से। मिला सका न मै अपनी जिन्दगी के काफिये रदीफ़ौ से।।

Translation: Even after learning so much from my companions and affectionate elders, I could never harmonize the poetic rhymes and refrains (qaafiya and radeef) of my own life.

Stanza 8

वजन कुछ भी नही होता है दुनियावी फायदौ से । काफी सीख लेता है बशर अपने तजरुबौ के कायदौ से।।

Translation: Worldly gains hold no true weight or substance; A human learns far more through the rules taught by personal experiences.

Stanza 9

कामयाबी ही सिर्फ जिन्दगी का कौल नही हो सकती है। खुश रहना भी जिन्दगी को बडा मोल दे सकती है।।

Translation: Success alone cannot be the ultimate purpose or promise of life, Simply learning to be happy can also grant life immense value.

Refrain / Stanza 1

गर कुदरत ने हमारी ख्वाहिशो का ऐहतिराम किया होता यह हादसा हमारी ज़िन्दगी के साथ कभी हुवा ना होता

English Translation: Had nature shown respect to my desires and dreams, This tragedy in my life would never have occurred, it seems.

Stanza 2

हम तो हरदम रहे किसी कुदरती मौजजे के मुन्तजिर पर हमे मालूम ना था हम हो जायेंगे रुसवा इस कदर काश हमने अपनी हसरतौ का इखतिलाफ किया होता गर कुदरत ने हमारी ख्वाहिशो का एहतिराम किया होता यह हादसा हमारी ज़िन्दगी के साथ कभी हुवा ना होता

English Translation: I constantly awaited some divine miracle to unfold, Unaware I would face such disgrace, painful and cold. Would that I had suppressed my heart's desperate longings and pleas! Had nature shown respect to my desires and dreams, This tragedy in my life would never have occurred, it seems.

Stanza 3

हम तो हर बार रहे कुदरत की सरगोशियो के कायल और मुकद्दर की गर्दिशो ने हमे हर दम किया है घायल काश हमने इन पर इतना ऐतमाद नही किया होता गर कुदरत ने हमारी ख्वाहिशो का एहतिराम किया होता यह हादसा हमारी ज़िन्दगी के साथ कभी हुवा ना होता

English Translation: Time and again, I believed in the soft whispers of fate, Yet the turns of destiny left me wounded, desolate and late. Would that I hadn't placed so much trust in these illusions! Had nature shown respect to my desires and dreams, This tragedy in my life would never have occurred, it seems.

Stanza 4

हम खोदते रहे जमीन को खजाने की तलाश मे अकसर भेच दी जब जमीन तो खजाना किसी ओरको हुवा मुयसर हमने जल्दी की हमेशा, कुछ ओर इन्तिज़ार किया होता गर कुदरत ने हमारी ख्वाहिशो का एहतिराम कियाहोता यह हादसा हमारी जिन्दगी के साथ कभी हुआ ना होता

English Translation: I kept digging the earth, constantly searching for hidden gold, But the moment I sold the land, another found the riches it did hold. I acted too hastily—would that I had waited a little while more! Had nature shown respect to my desires and dreams, This tragedy in my life would never have occurred, it seems.

Stanza 5

शायद मुकद्दर की सख्ती ने हमे हर भार पामाल किया दिलशिकस्ता होने परभी हमने किसी से सवाल न किया काश हमने पहले से ही तदबीरू पे ऐतबार किया होता गर कुदरत ने हमारी ख्वाहिशो का एहतिराम किया होता यह हादिसा हमारी ज़िन्दगी के साथ कभी हुवा ना होता

English Translation: Perhaps the harshness of fate trampled upon me at every turn, Yet despite a broken heart, I asked no questions in return. Would that I had relied on careful planning and action from the start! Had nature shown respect to my desires and dreams, This tragedy in my life would never have occurred, it seems.

Stanza 6 (Makhta)
